note from sai ( mun ): i mixed in some lore from older games ( e.g., the umbrella chronicles ... the russia lab thingy ) to better develop luciel's lore and to make other things make more sense, i guess. 😭 sorry if something is confusing !!

CW: MENTIONS OF SH, SUICIDE IDEATION &. MENTAL HEALTH TOPICS

  001. RACCON CITY   Born in Chile, Luciel Benavente emigrated alone to the United States at seventeen to study forensic science, hoping to build a future far from home.At nineteen, his studies are interrupted by the Raccoon City outbreak after witnessing the death of his only friends at hands of an infected during a forensic practice. Escaping with nothing but instinct, he reaches the R.P.D., where he meets Leon S. Kennedy. While Leon keeps him alive in the field, Luciel contributes through observation, deduction and his little forensic knowledge. At NEST, Luciel becomes trapped inside a room after separating from Leon. Unable to escape before the facility collapses, he is presumed dead, leaving behind no trace of his survival. But, Luciel survives beneath the remains of Raccoon City. Alone for days inside the destroyed underground complex, he documents everything he discovers while struggling to stay alive, convinced that no one is coming back for him.  002. UMBRELLA   Recovered by Umbrella's cleanup teams, Luciel is given a single choice: cooperate or die. He accepts, not out of loyalty, but from a broken instinct to survive.Transferred to the Europe research facility, he is forced to work as a biological analyst, performing autopsies on infected subjects, documenting viral progression, and identifying biological anomalies. The first autopsies leave him physically sick. The smell of decay — the sound of bone saws cutting through infected tissue, the guttural growls echoing through containment chambers, and the sight of disfigured bloody bodies become memories he cannot escape. He never stops blaming himself. In his mind, surviving when so many others died feels less like luck and more like a punishment. Every report he writes, every body he opens, every discovery that could help Umbrella deepens his self-hatred. Luciel becomes convinced that he deserves whatever happens to him.Isolation slowly becomes a part of him. His insomnia becomes chronic, nightmares blend with reality, and memories of life before Raccoon City begin to blur. Faces lose their details. Voices fade into silence. He spends nights desperately trying to remember someone’s laugh, the sound of voice, or the exact shape of a human face, terrified that one day those memories will disappear completely. His PTSD worsens with every passing year. Panic attacks, dissociation, hypervigilance, and constant guilt become part of his daily life. During severe episodes, Luciel resorts to self-harm as a maladaptive coping mechanism, using physical pain to interrupt panic or remind himself that he is still real and in control. Suicidal thoughts become an almost constant presence, persistent, and exhausting. More than once he considers ending everything, convinced that death would be easier than continuing to exist as one of Umbrella's dogs. One fragile hope becomes — the thread he refuses to let snap. If staying alive means seeing the people he lost one last time, then enduring another day is enough. For him, survival stops meaning living. To find his loved ones again, even if they hate him for what he had done.

  003. CAPTURE   ( 2003 ) Following Umbrella's collapse in Russia, Luciel voluntarily surrenders. After years of wishing for death he finds himself unable to take his own life, instead placing his fate in someone else's hands.( 2004 ) Classified as a person of interest by the U.S government, he spends over a year in custody. He refuses to cooperate with interrogators, barely speaks and sleeps — and he answers almost every question with silence. The only request he ever makes is to see Leon, he asks if they know about him, if he is still alive. Most assume it's an interrogation tactic; in reality, he simply needs to know that someone from his past is still with him.During his time in government custody, Luciel gradually loses any sense of autonomy over his own life. He stops thinking of himself as a person and begins seeing himself as little more than evidence, a resource to be questioned, studied, and used whenever his knowledge is required. He never argues against confinement, never asks for freedom, and rarely voices personal desires. As far as he is concerned, his life no longer belongs to him.( 2005 ) Eventually, the government gives in and allows Leon to review his case.Difficult. Leon had spent years believing Luciel died, only to discover he survived and somehow ended up working for Umbrella. At first, he doesn't know what to feel. he's relieved that Luciel is alive, but confused, frustrated, and unable to understand how everything went so wrong.Their first meetings are tense. Luciel expects to be hated the moment Leon walks into the room. Instead, Leon just listens. From then on, he keeps coming back, becoming the only person Luciel is willing to speak to. those visits slowly pull him out of the hopelessness he'd been drowning in for years.Even then, Luciel can't forgive himself. He believes he should have died in Raccoon City or just letting Umbrella kill him back then, and that surviving only made things worse.  004. 2011
Luciel is finally given something that does not feel like a sentence. The government quietly revises his status, moving him out of indefinite detention and into a controlled reintegration program. It's not forgiveness, and it's not freedom in the way most people understand it.
Years of slow evaluation and tightly controlled steps back into society, Luciel is officially integrated into the D.S.O framework as an external biological analyst. It's not a clean transition. There are days he does not show up, days he cannot step outside, days where old habits take over and he ends up staring at nothing for hours. But he keeps going anyway.Although time has given him freedom, it has never truly given him peace. The guilt left by Umbrella remain into almost every part of his life. He still doubts his own worth and believes redemption is something to be earned rather than received, and still carries the names and faces of the dead with him. Even so, he continues moving forward — one day at a time — choosing, for perhaps the first time in his life, to live instead of merely survive. He does not feel fixed. He does not feel forgiven. But at least there's a little of hope after such a long time.

EXTRA

⚹ Although Luciel prefers working off-field, he will accept field assignments whenever necessary. He has received basic self-defense and firearms training.⚹ Luciel never completed his forensic science degree. Most of his current knowledge comes from years of forced work under Umbrella, combined with what he learned before the Raccoon City incident. Much of his expertise is self-taught, built through experience rather than formal education.⚹ During the events in China, 2013 ( RE6 ), Luciel was deployed alongside both the D.S.O. and the BSAA, assisting with field investigations, laboratory analysis, and biological intelligence whenever it was required. It was also one of his first field assignments — although the Umbrella installations gave him a knot in his stomach, more because of his past than because of what was being presented or was actually there.⚹ Between 2015 and 2016, to keep from relapsing into self-harm, he went through a phase where he liked to gamble.* If it isn't obvious, Leon helped Luciel rebuild his life.⚹ Umbrella sees Luciel as a traitor, something that should never have slipped through their fingers. The name Luciel is still in those classified files in their possession, marking him as a high-priority target who must be killed.⚹ Luciel is quiet, observant, and usually keeps thing to himself, making him seem shy at first. He has a hard time opening up to others. Around people he trusts, he can be surprisingly playful. He likes getting little reactions out of others, teasing them with a straight face before acting like he did nothing wrong. His humor is dry, he's naturally curious, and he tends to notice things most people overlook.
